The Uptown Tour will take us to the Upper West Side of Manhattan where we will see iconic neighborhoods, such as the Lincoln Center location that was literally the neighborhood immortalized by Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, and Jerome Robbins – the inspiration for West Side Story. We’ll see Central Park, both West and East Side, as well as the great museums of New York City – one across from the Park and one inside!
No visit Uptown is complete without visiting Harlem, the historic Apollo Theater, and sites in and around Harlem. We’ll include a great Cathedral, a great University, and great tomb built to honor a man who was “first in Peace and first in War.” Finally, a trip down Fifth Avenue, past historic Museums, Mansions, and Millionaires!
The DOWNTOWN Tour will take us through Times Square, Fifth Avenue boutiques and Landmarks and into the unique neighborhood of Greenwich Village, literally “off the grid” of rigid Manhattan avenues and side-streets. Past Greenwich Village, into SoHo and TriBeCa, with cast-iron loft buildings now housing an affluent generation of New Yorkers.
We will see The Municipal District and great examples of Beaux-Arts Architecture from the historic City Beautiful Movement of the late Nineteenth Century. We will proceed to The Financial District and The World Trade Center, The Memorial of September 11, Battery Park viewing of a great statue in the Harbor celebrating the first hundred years of Liberty in America, a spectacular gift from our sympathetic and admiring friends in France.
The ideal circumstances will allow a few opportunities to explore on foot where possible: Prospect Park, The Green-Wood Cemetery, DUMBO, The Brooklyn Heights Promenade…we’ll pick and choose.
Brooklyn has an abundance of good food…good take-out, fine dining, pizza. We’ll make a suitable choice from among the many available options. Comfortable clothing and footwear a must.
An extended length tour can include a visit to Coney Island, The Boardwalk, The Ocean and Nathan’s Hot Dogs!
The Barclay’s Center (below)
One of Brooklyn’s newest additions, the Center has a shopping, residential and sports complex (and food!). Barclay’s is home to the NBA, NHL as well as Top Tier concerts and shows
